City Centre

The city centre is compact, walkable, and filled with energy. Living here means pubs, restaurants, shops, and the English Market on your doorstep. Apartments are mostly modern builds or converted Georgian houses. Expect higher density and noise on weekends but unbeatable convenience.

Douglas

Distance from city: 4 km south-east — 15 min bus

One of Cork's most desirable suburbs. Douglas has excellent schools, the Douglas Court and Douglas Village shopping centres, and a lively restaurant scene along Douglas Street. Popular with families and professionals. House prices are higher than average.

Blackrock

Distance from city: 3 km east — 10 min bus

Beautiful waterfront village on Cork Harbour. Blackrock Castle Observatory is a landmark. Great for morning walks along the marina, sailing enthusiasts, and families. Good primary schools and a village atmosphere while being very close to the city.

Ballincollig

Distance from city: 8 km west — 20 min bus

A large, well-planned suburb with its own town centre, the Ballincollig Regional Park, and the historic gunpowder mills. Excellent schools, plenty of housing options from new builds to older estates, and good amenities. Popular with families working at the many pharma and tech companies on the west side of the city.

Bishopstown

Distance from city: 4 km west — 15 min bus

Home to Cork University Hospital, University College Cork (UCC) campus at the Model Farm Road, and the CIT (Munster Technological University). Very popular with students, academics, and healthcare workers. Good bus links and a mix of housing.

Rochestown

Distance from city: 5 km south-east — 20 min bus

An upmarket suburb on the hills above Douglas. Known for larger detached houses, great views of Cork Harbour, and the Rochestown Park Hotel. Quiet, leafy, and family-oriented. Less walkable but very private.

Mahon

Distance from city: 4 km east — 10 min bus

A large residential suburb with Mahon Point Shopping Centre (one of Cork's biggest), good schools, and the Mahon Peninsula walks. Popular with families and young professionals. Good value compared to Douglas or Blackrock.

Togher & Togher Road

Distance from city: 3 km south-west — 15 min bus

A more affordable area close to the city. Improving amenities and strong community feel. Good for those who want city proximity without city centre prices.

Montenotte

Distance from city: 1.5 km north-east — 5 min bus

Historic hilltop suburb with beautiful views over the city and river. beautiful Victorian and Edwardian houses. Very close to the city centre. Popular with professionals and families who want character and views.

Glanmire

Distance from city: 7 km north-east — 15 min car/30 min bus

A growing commuter town with good schools, the Sallybrook and Riverstown areas, and plenty of green space. More affordable than southside suburbs. Good for those working north/east of the city.
